faithfuljoe,
That does make sense. Appreciate you posting.
Not too hard to imagine some of these prophecies coming true in the near future.
Blessings, Greg

Very, very near future I would say judging by how close ISIS is to the edge of Damascus!!

I heard this week that ISIS has taken control of some Syrian WMD's. 90 miles from Damascus to Jerusalem. How long before ISIS threatens and Israel fulfills Isaiah 17?

This is still pending. It may trigger the psalm 83 war.

This is still pending. It may trigger the psalm 83 war. I'm starting to think we may not see Damascus destroyed before the rapture. I wouldn't be surprised if after the rapture it is the Psalm 83 war that triggers Israel to destroy Damascus, which then leads to the Ezekiel 38 response. To me the order is a bit speculative at this point and I've even thought the Psalm 83 may have been fulfilled in '49, '67, or '73 - or perhaps in all three of them.

To me the order is a bit speculative at this point and I've even thought the Psalm 83 may have been fulfilled in '49, '67, or '73 - or perhaps in all three of them. That is quite possible, Gary. I do believe the events are all related. I believe Egypt and Syria are left out of the Ps. 83 list for important reasons. As of today, Egypt's posture toward Israel is one of non-aggression, even to the point of actively holding back Hamas fighters who are trying to enter Israel through the Sainai. Ever since 1973 Egypt has recognized that attacking Israel is a poor idea. If Egypt's Asswan High Dam is full of water, and Israel were to blow it up (even with conventional weapons), the water would flood down and kill more than 90% of the population of Egypt. On the other hand, depending when the Nile dries up, Egypt will be in civil war anyway, and incapacitated as a regional influence according to Isaiah 19 and the current pending completion of Ethiopia's GERD dam which will be able to "turn the river far away". Syria is also not mentioned by name. Interestingly Assyria is mentioned, but not Babylon, causing me to understand that enemies from northern, but not southern, Iraq will be involved. If this happened in the next little while, that would be likely to mean ISIS. Syria's absence could be due to being embroiled in their own conflicts, as at the present time, or because the nuke has eliminated them as a regional power. My best case hunch is this-- SOMEBODY (ISIS, NWO people, Iran, Hezbollah, etc. etc. nukes Damascus without warning, and the news media, for one reason or another, points the finger at Israel. That's all the neighbour countries need as evidence, and they rush in there from all sides. Ps. 83 occurs. PLEASE NOTE that a nuke in Damascus will have severe environmental impact in Israel, probably, at the very least, destroying fine electronics within a certain radius of the blast, as well as health hazards for all humans radiating out from point zero. Damascus is not far from the Golan Heights. The mountainous terrain might aid in helping to minimize the radiation damage in Israel, but it will still be something to consider. It is quite possible that electronics will be so destroyed or disrupted in the region that telecom will be unreliable, and the moslem people groups of the area will have to spread the news word-of-mouth from community to community. Perhaps ISIS with its organization skills will be able to whip up the structure of a coordinated attack on Israel, even without electronics. Once Psalm 83 wipes out the surrounding neighbors (certain passages seem to indicate the women of Moab and possibly other nations are spared in large numbers, since they didn't go off to war with the men to be killed), after that, Israel could be in a good position to enjoy an artificial peace, quite possibly brokered by the beast. Then they will be dwelling at ease in the unwalled cities. Then Gog will be drawn in to an invasion-- a hook will be in his jaws. What kind of a hook? Welllllll-- going back to the world opinion being that Israel was the one that bombed Damascus-- if it happened today, a lot of Vladimir Gog's human resources and military hardware are in Damascus right now, with no signs of pulling out any time soon. At some point we'll talk about who Gog is. The name does not make sense for Putin or anyone else in a position of power today. But linguistics between Hebrew and the rest of the world provide some interesting possibilities-- names like George, for instance, not to mention Google.

If you've read the Joel Rosenberg book "Damascus Countdown" it tells an interesting possibility where they basically blow themselves up, but I think I agree with you watchmanjim that it will not be Israel, but will be blamed on Israel. The devil likes to do stuff like that.

The devil likes to do stuff like that. Yes, or one other possibility is that Damascus (real or perceived) threatens to nuke Israel and Israel strikes first--- BUT I dont think that's likely to happen in our present circumstance-- Damascus is not out to get Israel at the moment-- that's all they need, is more enemies to fight against when they're on the ropes. So yes, I really don't think Israel will strike Damascus any time soon. One possible exception would be if ISIS were to totally take over the city, and make threats on Israel from there. Then it would be an ISIS-controlled Damascus Israel would be dealing with, not Syrian government Damascus.

Well once the embassy moves sometime this summer I think the whole dynamic will change with Israel and its enemies... millions of Muslims are going to be stark raving mad. I have no idea if Damascus is blown up before or after the rapture, but judging by how it looks now...it can't be long...I mean the place is practically all wreckage already.

Yes, but it is still a city today-- and Isaiah 17:1 says it shall cease from being a city.

And this verse: Isaiah 17:3: has been a thing of much question for me. I am trying to figure out all the ramifications of Isaiah 17 and it isn't easy.
Verse 3:
ונשׁבת מבצר מאפרים וממלכה מדמשׂק ושׁאר ארם ככבוד בני־ישׂראל יהיו נאם יהוה צבאות
Isa 17:3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

One question is whether this passage is to be understood primarily as one lucid time period, or if there's a lot of multi-fulfillment prophecy interacting.
Isa 17:1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. Isa 17:2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. Isa 17:3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts. Isa 17:4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean. Isa 17:5 And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim. Isa 17:6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel. Isa 17:7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel. Isa 17:8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images. Isa 17:9 In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation. Isa 17:10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips: Isa 17:11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow. Isa 17:12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! Isa 17:13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. Isa 17:14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

I am 'resurrecting' this thread due to some demand regarding discussing the timing and effects of the destruction of Damascus. I am going to try to rename the thread so that it broadens the discussion from the 2015 - spring 2017 topics to include newer information as of this date. Due to new data resulting from the passage of time, we now know that ISIS has largely been eliminated as a threat, and the Israelis appear to have agreed to a 40km buffer/'demilitarized' zone north of the Golan Heights www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Report-Israel-vows-to-destroy-Iranian-positions-within-40-km-of-Syrian-border-515209, there also have been other developments, notably: 'positive' dialog between Saudi Arabia, the U.S. and Israel. The request here, was to discuss in greater detail the prophecy of Isa 17 and see whether and how well the connection is between that passage, Psa 83 and potentially Ex 38-39. Some scenarios include: 1. Israel pre-emptively levels Damascus due to stuff related to Iran's influence in Syria. This results in a Psa 83 counterstrike which is defeated per the prophecy, which in turn provokes the Ex 38-39 war. 2. There is a Psa 83 attack resulting in the fulfillment of Isa 17 as part of the defeat of the forces described in Psa 83. The defeat of the PSa 83 forces causes everyone in the world to take pause, and 'think twice' about attacking Israel. It might force the Revelation 'agreement between many' (peace and safety) which is broken in the middle of the Trib, eventually resulting in the Ex 38-39 war culminating in the battle at Megiddo. 3. The Psa 83 attack is defeated, and sets up the Ex 38-39 war, in which the prophecy of Isa 17 is fulfilled, when Israel destroys the Russian military storage depot in Damascus in retaliation for the occupation by Russia of the Golan Heights and southern Syria; ultimately however, the Israelis are defeated and the AoD occurs. 4. The Psa 83 war is not related to either the Isa 17 prophecy or the Ex 38-39 war directly. That is, the 'agreement between many' is the result of the loss by the antagonists of the Psa 83 war. The losing side sues for peace in an attempt to 'slow Israel down'. The Israelis eventually level Damascus either as a result of the mid-Trib violation of the agreement, or during the Ex 38-39 war. There is some discussion related to the Psa 83 war at unsealed.boards.net/thread/1124/growing-threats-israelThe Psa 83 antagonists appear to (geographically/historically) be: Edom, Moab, Ammon, Amalek, Hagrites - JordanIshmaelites - Saudi Arabia (maybe) or Jordan (I am now leaning towards Jordan due to the latest activity between Israel, Saudi Arabia and the U.S.) Philistia - Gaza StripByblos, Tyre - LebanonAssyria - TurkeyI note here that Syria is not in the list for the Psa 83 war. - EDIT: If Assyria geographically included Syria, then Syria would be included.unsealed.boards.net/thread/1124/growing-threats-israel#ixzz4zasTeyYsSome questions to ponder: How far from Damascus is the Golan Heights? More or less than 40km? Does Russia still have a large amount of ordinance there? It would be helpful if someone could list the antagonists in the Ez 38-39 war. Also, I have heard that some have identified at least 8-9 military conflicts (wars) that are prophetically described, but have not yet apparently been fulfilled. We may be missing pieces of the puzzle. If the Isa 17 destruction of Damascus is part of the Ex 38-39 war, I think we could safely assume that the Psa 83 war will occur just about the time the Trib starts. EDIT: This map of the Assyrian empire shows Iraq, part of Turkey and part of Syria as part of Assyria: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assyria#/media/File:Ancient_Egypt_and_Mesopotamia_c._1450_BC.pngHere is a map of the middle east, for comparison: www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/me.htm
