The dragon in revelation 12 as others have said is draco, with the stars of bootes as the ten crowns, and the stars of corona borealis as the crowns and the seven heads as the seven stars (some faint) in draco's head. Now that doesn't mean much since this constellation is always in the sky. The important thing is that it swept a third of the stars from the sky with its tail. This specifies an exact date, December 25th. To be brief there is a meteor shower called the ursids in december which is right under draco's tail. On exactly decemer 25th alone is this one of three active meteor showers, thus one third of the falling stars are under its tail for this one day a year. This has a couple meanings one could be that it could be specifying december 25 249 AD as the fulfillment since on this date virgo is just to give birth to jupiter after a perfect alignment on august 28th 249. Another is that after this date Aurelian declared a pagan holiday on december 25th (not long after the 249 alignment actually) to blot out christ's birthday. If true that would mean waiting for Christmas at the earliest. We got caught out expecting Rev 12:1-5 to happen silmutaneously. This refers to verses 3-4 which must either happen before or coinciding with verse 5.

But if it happens every year at about the same time, is that really a sign?

1. its not a 'great' sign so yes, notwithstanding that one would presume that a sign would be somewhat unique
2. also, the draconids meteor shower, which can be 'spectacular' is october 7-9
