In our world, it is so easy to get lost in the shuffle. With all the lies and deception going around, we can’t even tell if our news is true or fake. The agenda of the devil has spread so drastically, that we don’t know what is right. These lies have spread throughout the church and has caused division and separation. It has gotten to the point that we start questioning the very words of God. This has put the bible on trial in the minds of the world.
There are many Christians and non-Christians that believe that the bible is contradictory. Most of these people jump to conclusions without any real research. What usually happens is they read something in the bible that they don’t understand or they find something similarly discussed, but with a different answer, then they base their assumptions on the whole book as if it is contradicting itself.
Most of these accused contradictions are in the gospels, due to the many translations. One of the biggest objections and said contradictions are with the order that the gospels are written. If you put the gospels side by side and compare, you will easily see that Mark and Luke wrote chronologically, but Mathew chose not to. This makes it easy for scoffers to say that these are contradicting, because they are not in the precise order. However, if they took 5 minutes to research and think about it, they would conclude that each writer was writing from their own experience. They remembered events in different orders and they could also have been just writing what came to mind first.
There are many accused contradictions, but all of them are refuted by going to another part in the Word. An example of this is when Jesus is brought in front of the Sanhedrin in Mathew and Mark. In Mathew 26:67-68 it says, then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”.
After reading this it is easy to note that this makes no sense. If someone slapped you and your standing right there, why would it be prophesying to know who slapped you? However, after reading the account in Mark, we get our answer. In Mark 14:64-65 it says, “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” They all condemned him as worthy of death. 65 Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him. After reading this passage we get our answer why its prophesying, they blindfolded him and then started beating him.
This is a prime example of how scripture interprets scripture and speaks to the authenticity of its writings. If we remember the gospels were and are eyewitness accounts of real people. It was not a made-up fairytale to get attention and to garner power, like some people make religion out to be. Instead it was normal people writing down what they experienced and saw.
The reason that the authenticity cannot be disputed is because all of them are different. If I wanted to plan the bible and I had this great lie and great story to tell, I would want all the 3 gospels to match up line by line. This would make it so believable that no one could find any holes in it. With the differences, we are seeing into the eyes of the true author, and we get to see how the story played out with different points of view. An example of this is if we both were in the same room, but I was on the opposite side of you during an event, I could see the other side that you are missing. Even though both accounts are different, they come together like a puzzle to fit the whole picture in.
