Like most here I really, really want the rapture to occur today/tomorrow. I have been praying about it constantly, but have been very leery to draw a line in the sand – yes it will be this day. Last night, while praying feeling slightly down because nothing has happened as of yet – I felt God made me remember something that happen years ago – I am sharing it here in the hopes it will help someone else (as well as myself – with the reminder that God is in control.
In the eighties, I was fresh out of college, with a new job, and was attending a large Baptist Church in Dallas (if I named it many would recognize it). Any rate that year they were sending a group of “Singles” to Columbia for a week long mission trip. The trip would cost $2500 per person and each person was expected to finance their own way.
Shorting the story which took months in the making. I just knew I was going on that trip. Family and friends knew all about it – they also knew the only thing I did not have was the $2500.
I did everything possible I could to prepare for the trip. I went to all the planning meetings, I arrange time off from work for that week. I got my first Passport. I was literally ready in every way to take that trip – except I had no $2500.
One Sunday night came, that was the deadline, where the funds had to be turned in for the trip. I still did not have them. At that Sunday, night meeting I had to tell the group leaders that I still felt I was supposed to go, but I had no way to pay for the trip. I left that meeting pretty much in tears, not know how I could have felt so positive I was going on the trip – when the funds never did appear. I had prayed and prayed for months about the trip – all along just knowing I was going – and yet here I was the night of the final payment – no funds.
Needless to say I went home that night, very depressed and not understanding I how I had been so certain of the trip – only to be fund less at the most important time.
That very night, around 10:30pm I receive a telephone call from my Dad. It appears he had been in a fishing competition that weekend. He ended up winning $25,000 (I believe for second place) in the fishing competition. He decided 10% of the winning would be going to the church and decided to pay my way for the Columbia Mission Trip.
Quick follow up, was able to contact the leaders the next day with the news, they were able to get me the tickets and place to stay. I did have an enjoyable time on the Columbia Mission Trip, and felt many people were touched when they heard about my Fish Story.
Point being – God is in control. We are on His timing and He will never be late. Whether we are talking being raptured now or ten years from now – God has it all worked out – even if it seems to us He missed the timing!
