I noticed a blood moon here in Arizona at 5:15am my time. People from PA, Quebec, Texas, CO, Ontario sighted this blood moon.... www.wnem.com/story/36288944/why-did-the-moon-look-orangeI didn't buy that the blood moon was a result of the fires on the west coast.... Sure enough I found a video posted by someone in South America showing the same thing.... Keep in mind their notation for dating is day, month then year....haven't seen much posts about this but thought I'd share.

We like to encourage discussion without arguing, so I am going to comment but please don't take any offense from my comment. There are a lot of fires. British Columbia, Manitoba and Montana have all made the news where I live in Alberta. The smoke from some of these fires has been really thick, which makes the sun appear red when it is up. Last time the sun was red for me was when we were blanketed with thick smoke from BC last week. It made for really errie back to school photos because the kids started school that day and everyone took pictures of their kids outside waiting for the bus in red light. The smoke has moved on from where I am but I was watching a weather feed on YouTube yesterday and it was showing thick smoke south of the border, stretching for a really long way, even back into Ontario and Quebec. So, I believe the smoke could probably be the cause of the orange moon. As for the supporting video from South America, it is moving and very small compared to what the moon looks like to me, so, I don't think it is the moon, but could it possibly be an image of the fireball that stuck in southern BC?

Appreciate the warm welcome. I would have to disagree. The person who recorded the moon in South America states in Portuguese the following: "I woke up and looking at the sky I saw the second moon of blood, the first one was in September 2016 at midnight ... today's blood moon was at 6:00 am ....." I have enough faith that this person knows what a moon is. The person is located in Itaiópolis, which is in South Brazil. In addition, these fires are still burning and the moon is not showing this color tonight. Don't buy the premise, there's no way these fires would cause the coloration of the moon across this much territory.

Hello gospelaxiom. Thanks for sharing the information, but are you certain you are calling what is commonly known as a 'blood moon' a blood moon? What I mean by this is the 'standard' definition for a blood moon is "the phenomenon whereby the moon in total eclipse appears reddish in color as it is illuminated by sunlight filtered and refracted by the earth's atmosphere."
Now in the case you mention it is likely the moon appeared orange, but it was not an eclipse as there was no eclipse during this full moon (which is technically today)

Smoke from the fires in the western US and Canada made it's way into IL a couple of days ago. It was cloudy and the light outside was greenish yellow. It was weird. People not far from here were taking pictures of the red sun and the news said the moon would appear red. The particles in smoke will do that. WE had smoke and clouds so I didn't see the sun or moon. My question would be-- are there wildfires going on in Central or South America that would cause smoke across Brazil? If that is not the case, then something else is definitely going on. And if I try to film the moon with my phone it is really small and moves around like that video because I can't hold my arm still when I video. I'm guessing the clouds that are making it look red are also the ones that make it disappear and reappear. The quality of the camera might also affect how orange / red the moon looks.

I may or may not have found an answer. On Sept 4, the day before the South America video, La Cumbre volcano erupted and sent a plume of smoke into the air. It is off the coast of Ecuador. If it sent enough smoke into the air and into the right direction, it could have caused the "blood moon."
ETA- I'm trying to find if it's possible that any other volcanoes are spewing smoke, such as Sangay in Ecuador.

Adam in Missouri also spotted a blood moon the other day and was puzzled by it.
One thought I have is that even if it is mainly caused by all these wildfires, it may be no less a sign when you think about the timing.

We've been having smoky air here in my neck of the woods, as well, and the sun has been quite a strange and awesome sight--as well as the moon! Here is a link to an interesting real-time map that shows where fires are burning in the US.

I think we need more evidence of a red or orange moon in South America taken by multiple different people around the same time to really say for sure what this one particular video is filming and when. Just because the date that the video was published on YouTube was yesterday doesn't mean that was when the Video was taken. I know they're speaking Portuguese, but how do we know it's in Brazil? Other than they say it is. I'm not trying to be harsh and suggest they are lying, but it wouldn't be the first time something was faked. There just needs to be more evidence to corroborate the red moon on Sept 5 in South America. Surely, more than one person on the entire continent would've thought it interesting and uploaded a video or picture somewhere?

I live in Oregon and yesterday noticed that the sun was very red in late afternoon and the moon orange when it came out. But we've had a very smoky "cloud" cover for days. It's definitely the wild fires. I've read that right now there are 14 of them going on in Oregon, plus many more over the west and up in Canada.

A bit ago I started a thread on the wildfires around the world. From the looks of the map, Brazil is on fire, too. I don't know what the smoke is doing there but it could also very well be why the moon is reddish.
I agree with MissusMack also...it would be great to see some other videos or maybe some news reports. Hopefully tonight I am going to have some time and can do some more looking into the wild fires around the world.

Surely, more than one person on the entire continent would've thought it interesting and uploaded a video or picture somewhere? I get skepticism I do, however there is very little reason I find this video to be faked. In order to find it I searched for blood moon in Portuguese (it doesn't come up in english), this video pulled up and if you notice it doesn't have a significant amount of views. I messaged and confirmed the person filming is from South Brazil and was in South Brazil at the time it was filmed. He uploaded the film the same night that we saw the blood moon in the US. If you look at his other videos, you will see other amateur videos he's made in the past from the same area he claims to be from. So I find it less likely that a channel with very little views, that has a history of uploading unpopular videos in southern Brazil, with very little tags to find it, is scheming to put up a fake blood moon video. As far as I know I'm really the only person who has shared this. There's really not a strong case for a motive here.

The main unsealed page has a new article addressing the blood moons seen the end of August thru the beginning of September in various places. It's a an interesting read. It mentions wildfires in Brazil. I do think that is what caused this blood moon.
