So I read Jeff's article; it was great. It got me to wondering, as I am sure many of you also wondered... Who were the 7 kings described in Revelation 17:8-11?
I have a list (didnt check it twice... didnt have to... they were all naughty.) of potential candidates.
May we discuss and tinker with it?
1. Nimrod 2. "Exodus" Pharoah (I do not know his name) 3. Nebuchadnezzar 4. Alexander the Great 5. Antiochus Epiphanes 6. Nero 7. Hitler
8. One of the above.
Each of the men above (excepting possibly Alexander and Hitler) portrayed themselves as god-like, or otherwise exercised some activity that is paralleled in Daniel and Revelation prophecy.
If I were to exclude Alexander and/or Hitler, I might substitute Constantine, or one of the other Roman Emperors who appropriately fits.
Anyone have any ideas about who should be on the list; and reasons for them to be there?
1st edit----------
It occurs to me that the 'one is' reference in the passage, would refer to Nero. So I am substituting him in for Domitian Though there would only be one 'one is to come' before the 8th, so that puts Nero in position #6.
Based on that, I believe either Domitian or Hitler would get bumped. Does anyone have any ideas as to who might fit the list prior to Nero? Ashurbanipal? Xerxes?

Napoleon Bonaparte would be a great candidate, yardstick!

Hitler would be 128 years old if he were still living. . . .

There seems to be a lot of speculation on Nimrod. I have read some of this and watched some of the other information. He certainly was quite the AC in his day. Supposedly they found his head a few years ago. If that were true, the rest of the speculation is they will use his DNA to "resurrect" him. He'd have my vote of this were possible.

Napoleon Bonaparte would be a great candidate, yardstick! Nice Choice. Why do you think he should be on the List? p.s.: after 1st edit, he would have to bump Hitler. Does that make sense? Or do you think Hitler more appropriate?

While there have been many evil men throughout history that have been very antichrist-like, I would think that the actual AC would not only be evil, but also have a personal vendetta against the God of Israel and be religious or at least acceptable in a religious context and able to deceive, if possible, the elect (which to me rules out Hitler). This keeps bringing me back to Nimrod and Nebuchadnezzar. It is said that Nimrod actually tried to “shoot” God with an arrow by aiming it up into the heavens. Nebuchadnezzar built an image that he ordered people to worship & be killed, just like the beast of Rev. 13.

Or do you think Hitler more appropriate? Thanks, yardstick! Yes, Hitler by far would be more appropriate where the evil factor is concerned, in my estimation! Napoleon had the arrogance, the military prowess, and rose to power from the horrendous ashes of the French Revolution to build an empire. But Hitler's hatred for the Jewish people and the horrors of the persecution they faced during his bid to take Europe far outweigh what I know of Napoleon.

I think if you read Daniel carefully, Nebuchadnezzar came around to surrendering to God eventually--or at least it seems like it. I think he may very well be with us ruling in the Kingdom! Though his kingdom may not be as big as his earthly kingdom once was. . . . but if he trusted God for salvation, he's saved. If not, he's in Hell, but he turned out, it seems, to at least recognize and acknowledge the true God of Israel.

We're not saved from hell by "surrendering" (which would be salvation by our works); we're saved by putting our trust in the Savior to save us by his work.

But you will never put your trust in Him until you surrender. To give up trying to do anything else, other than put your trust in Him. That's what surrendering is.

A lot of preachers and Christians equate "surrender" with doing a whole list of things (church, bible, following the law, etc).

That's not what I meant, sorry for the confusion. Surrender can be accurately used both of these ways. To me the big surrender is when you give up and put your trust in Christ and His Name (which concept includes the salvation afforded by His blood). Acts 16:31, John 1:12.

The way Daniel reads Nebuchadnezzar did turn to God after his time as a wild beast. In fact Daniel 4:34-37 has him praising, thanking God as the ruler over the universe. I believe this King is in heaven.... As an after thought, Chapter 4 is read in the words of Nebuchadnezzar --- so He actually wrote that part of the Bible.
