Hi all, I am not sure if this has been covered before. I didn't see any posts that addressed this. I have no formal seminary training so my analysis could be way off. None-the-less, I offer these observations so that others can look at them and see if there's anything to it.
I would like to suggest that the first 6 verses of Psalm 50 could describe the tribulation, followed by God's promise to remove the church before the Tribulation AND before the great sign of Revelation 12. Here are verses 1-7 for discussion:
1 The amighty God, even the Lord, hath spoken, and called the earth
From the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God hath shined.
3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence:
A fire shall devour before him,
And it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
4 He shall call to the heavens from above,
And to the earth, that he may judge his people.
5 Gather my saints together unto me;
Those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness:
For God is judge himself. Selah.
7 Hear, O my people, and I will speak;
O Israel, and I will testify against thee:
I am God, even thy God.
Verses 1-4 appear to describe God's response to man's sin as he prepares to pour out his wrath on the Earth.
Verse 5 seems to show the rapture. This is not a proof text for a pre-trib rapture, but knowing that the rapture is pre-trib from elsewhere, one could assume this verse shows that God plans to gather the "saints" (church?) to protect them from the wrath just described. The covenant by sacrifice I interpret as our covenant with God through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
Verse 6 describes the heavens declaring God's righteousness (Revelation 12?). Interesting that it comes after verse 5. Wild speculation ahead: could it be that the sign of Revelation 12 happens AFTER the rapture? There are varying theories about when the real Feast of Trumpets is in 2017, but by some reckoning it could start as early as the evening of September 20, and even if we wait until the sighting of the new moon it will likely start by the evening of September 21 over 24 hours before the sign of Revelation 12 comes into alignment on the 23rd. Could this be a hint that we will see a Feast of Trumpets rapture just ahead of the Revelation 12 sign?
Verse 7 is now about Israel. This fits with the dispensational understanding of end times where God begins his dealings with Israel after the church is gone.
The Psalm continues to verse 23 with various condemnations which could be seen as fitting into the tribulation period.
Again, I have no formal training in hermeneutics, so take all of what I just said with a grain of salt and feel free to offer any thoughts on this interpretation. Thanks!
