Hard to say...if we count them for the past 30 days, we see 12 (had to manually count them from USGS as EMSC's website suffered a catastrophic technical issue and has been down for 2 days...they are working to get it back up).
This is about the average we saw in the last half of 2018. 8 in the month of January so far. Same pace.

The earthquake above makes 13 - 6.0+ for January 2019. That's one more than the average (12 per month) in 2018 with 5 more days left in Jan. I expect to see 1 or 2 more yet this month.

Still waiting for 1 more 6.0+ EQ before January is done. We came close yesterday with the 5.9 off the coast of South America ( earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us1000is2c/executive ). Of note, there is a strange event happening off the coast of the The Dominican Republic. We see EQ's in this area almost every day...but 2 - 4...not 30! This swarm started yesterday. Magnitudes range from the 2's to the 4's. Could be a precursor to a big one (1 in 5 chance). Many You Tube prophet's videos are replete with warnings of a pending east coast tsunami. Just sayin'.  |
