That was interesting. Thanks, Gary. I ran across something this evening that also connects the 12 constellations with the twelve tribes of Israel. I guess it is in Hebrew tradition. Only four of the tribes are known for sure - the principal tribes in the camp - Reuben (the Water Bearer), Judah ( the Lion), Dan (the Scorpion), and Joseph (the Bull). It also goes with the belief that each tribe carries a flag with a symbol on it, one of the constellation emblems.

Good article. I might suggest one of two other reasons for the mazzaroth: 1. Imagine someone in the millennium staring up at the constellations...and reading the story of salvation there. Because it was put there for the people of that time. Not our time. To explain what God did. Because there probably will not be any more Bibles or need for them. This could explain why we only have bits and pieces and speculation... WE have the written Word... and/or 2. Moses wasn't born (and didn't write the pentateuch) until well after the flood. This includes any and all references to the revealing of the Plan of Salvation via scripture. The oral tradition of the mazzaroth meanings would have only been applicable and necessary prior to the flood (hence the Job references), because they had no 'Scriptures'! The message of the mazzaroth (this explanation of the Plan of salvation) was for them! not us. SO, when only 8 people made it onto the ark, the knowledge of that time was limited to their knowledge. Their knowledge would have started becoming lost/corrupted within but a single generation...
