schooldad3 , Thank you for this. I have held this in my heart for a long time that taking the Lord's name in vain is not what people in general think it is. ie, "cussing". I came to think that if you think yourself a Christian, but only to make yourself appear righteous, you were breaking the commandment. Your .pdf explains this all perfectly. Just like a wife taking her new husband's name, taking the name of the Lord, "Christ(ian)", is something God takes very serious or he wouldn't have included it in the original ten commandments. btw, not being critical, but you have it as "Keep in mind that Hebrew reads from left to right", but it's right to left, correct?

Thank you again schooldad3 great info and as stormyknight said "its like a wife taking her husbands name" - we represent the name of the Lord. One thing to consider also in that taking the Lords name in vain regarding using His holy name incorrectly. I do believe what you lay out so well is fully applicable but I also believe that while it is that, it is also using His name incorrectly. Let me know if you see this as an application of "taking the Lords name in vain" or if you see this differently. Appreciate the dialogue Lev 24:10 Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the sons of Israel; and the Israelite woman’s son and a man of Israel struggled with each other in the camp. 11 The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) 12 They put him in custody so that the command of the LORD might be made clear to them. 13 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 14 “Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then let all the congregation stone him. 15 “You shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If anyone curses his God, then he will bear his sin. 16 ‘Moreover, the one who blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him. The alien as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.blasphemed - 6895 qabab: to utter a curse against, curse cursed - 7043 qalal: to be slight, swift or trifling After coming to these verses I see that both are applicable. We ought to revere the name of the Lord in all things. If you belong to Him how could you possibly also curse His name?

yes it certainly would apply because no one having the spirit of the Lord can say Jesus is accursed 1 Corinthians 12:3
