wanted to share a story with you all.
My sister, who is just older than me and also a sister in the church, takes care of my Dad. He will be 94 next Wednesday, Feb. 16th. On January 25, she said she put on The Chosen series for him to watch. She has seen it a couple of times now, so she went into the next room to work on bills and such of Dad's while he watched. After a bit, she thought she heard him lightly sobbing, so she came into the room and found him standing in front of the TV. The scene was where Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus about being born of the Spirit(a very moving scene by the way). He motioned to the TV and asked her, "how can I have this?" For context, Dad has been a pretty devout Catholic since he was twelve. My sister said she froze for a second and then was reminded of certain scriptures to tell him, like Romans 10:9+, John 3:16-17, etc. She asked if he believed all this and he said yes. He also told her to never let him forget it.
On February 7th, Dad had a fairly massive stroke. The MRI shows the left side of his brain has softened considerably and it also showed he had suffered a mild stroke on the right side of his brain sometime in the recent past. He is in the hospital, of course, but he hasn't eaten since Monday. I'm of the mind that he won't come home. I pray that God will take him peacefully and mercifully in his sleep. I don't know if that is the right thing to pray for, but I believe he won't have any quality of life from here on out unless God performs a great miracle, which I believe is also possible.
I've heard many stories of people doing similar things just before they pass away, so this doesn't surprise me. And knowing that he asked to be saved gives me peace for him more than ever.
