EnochWalked: I don't think that the investment in AI is necessarily a bubble, and even if it were, that doesn't mean that the technology will completely disappear, just as eBay and Amazon didn't disappear after the dotcom bubble. We're just entering a critical period.

EnochWalked: I wouldn't be surprised if the total amount spent to reach Artificial General Intelligence ends up being $666 billion. To the optimists, this is a small price to pay to create a digital god. I suppose it's better to have it be born in the US than China.

EnochWalked: The article doesn't seem to offer a suggestion for what has suddenly caused this problem. Maybe it's inflation, which might not be as much of an issue next year, but we have to consider that the cause is automation / AI. That will only get more powerful.

EnochWalked: For reference, the Manhattan Project was active for 4 years, with the atomic bombs dropped in the 3rd year. If the Manhattan Project for AI starts some time next year, then that would suggest AGI by 2028. The paper by Aschenbrenner suggested AGI by 2027.
