In 2019 I had found a plan for reading the bible in a year in a daily journal book format for 2020. I successfully completed about 2 months of reading before I slowly slid off program and before I realized it, 2021 was about to start.
I had mailed one of those journals to my Dad who decided that we should reuse the plan for this year and that I should try again. However, I found that I didn't like using the journal and found a method that I could make work.
I once came across this bible tracker. It prints out nicely on thick cardstock paper to make a nice page to tuck inside a Bible. I used it to draw pen boxes around the last reading for a month and would indicate what the daily reading divisions from the journal were. Having the one page helped me when I would fall behind to see that I had to do some "catch up" to get back on track.
The other thing that helped was having a reading buddy. My Dad would text me "Finished Reading 📖" when he would finish his daily reading and that would help me to be motivated to be able to return a text or at times, beat him to texting.
This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and I am thankful today not only for my Dad but because today I finished reading the entire Old Testament. It is much more fun to pick and choose what you want to read rather than to sit down and read straight through, however, because of reading straight through I have found parts that I want to spend more time studying that I wouldn't have come across by selectively reading.
Tomorrow I get to start the NT and my goal is to involve my kids in the daily reading so that they will be able to say on December 31 that they have read the entire New Testament. My Dad likes to read the daily reading out loud and has encouraged me to do that for the NT with my kids.
Here is a link to the printable tracker that can be used for all types of Bible reading challenges.
