tennessean , Hey tennessean , This is your fellow Tennessee watchman Scots-Irish-French-Jewish-American, Polish-speaking brother in Knoxville. I sent you an introduction message. ;-) He seems like an interesting guy. I definitely would love to check him out and hear some of this stuff. He seems a little confused. I started listening to a little bit, but didn't get very far and had to do some other things. I noticed he kept going back and forth between summer solstice and equinox, and I've also heard others - Barry Awe and others say something to the effect that they were supposed to use the Spring equinox to know when to start the New Year. ? ? I asked Barry Awe about it, - if he could point me to a scripture, or any source that could confirm that to be the case, but he never responded. I've also done multiple searches and can't find this anywhere in scripture. From what i understand, the barley had to be ripe, and this was the way they knew that the first month of the year [Nisan] could begin, so they could wave the firstfruits on Nisan 17. Cheers, Disciple4life.

Hello friends. I noticed that there were several questions about the equinox and the calendar. I don't have a dogmatic view on this, but I did write up a little synopsis of the debate over on Facebook. I hope this helps.
So, the equinox actually factors in both calendars, even the current Jewish calendar. It's true that the equinox itself is probably not mentioned in Scripture, however, the premise might be there for a couple of reasons: first, because the sun, moon, and stars actually do determine the seasons (see Gen. 1:14) and, naturally, the Spring season begins at the Spring equinox. The Fall season begins at the Autumnal equinox. Second, the argument is made that Deut. 16:1 provides possible scriptural support for having all of Abib/Nisan fall in the Spring. The word translated "observe" can mean "keep, preserve, watch." In other words, preserve the whole time of Abib as it should be.
Abib means "tender, fresh, green," etc. The word is so closely connected with the growing season of Spring that rabbinical writers have actually used Abib/Aviv as a word for Spring itself.
