Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Why isn't this the first resurrection of the end times? That is what it says...

I've heard it explained in this way, gregt: The first resurrection included multiple periods to it, including Jesus' resurrection after His crucifixion (He being the firstfruits), the people who came out of their graves immediately after Jesus' resurrection (Matthew 27:51-53), the dead in Christ at the time of His return to meet us in the clouds, those who are alive and remain immediately after the dead in Christ are raised, and those who came to believe in the Lord during the tribulation period and died (whether through martyrdom or disaster).

I forgot about the 2 witnesses raised during the tribulation period, as well, and there would also be the Old Testament believers in the Lord brought to life to take part in the Lord's millennial kingdom.

My experience has taught me that preconceived notions about a passage interferes with letting the Holy Spirit show me what it means. If I read this passage without a preconceived notion, it is pretty clear in what it is saying.

Ok, so then from what you understand of that passage, when is the point in (evidently, future) time when the First Resurrection occurs?

At the second coming, but my point about this passage is that it is called the first resurrection, and it includes martyrs killed during the great tribulation.
