Considering all these sudden riots around the world (U.S., Peru, Lebanon, etc) and what looks like the brink of major war (Pakistan/China/India/Taiwan/Turkey/Libya/etc). What if the compounding 2020 dominoes (Peace plan, Coronavirus, riots) lead next to outright war... peace taken from the earth... for maybe a few weeks/months. Then at the end of the Summer time-frame the "ETs" step forward, which in reality are satan and company's arrival on earth after being cast down (see Rev. 12:3-4, 7-9; 2 Thess. 2:9-10)... and their arrival means the end of the war... people cry "Peace and security" in worship of these entities. Remember, in Rev. 12:3-4 satan is portrayed as being on earth with his angels post-fall ready to devour the child.
Now that would explain both 1 Thess. 5:3, but also a very literal interpretation of the threat posed to the Church by satan... and then the Church escapes and the A.C. is subsequently presented to the world (2 Thess. 2:3, 7).
Regarding Rev. 13:4 where the people of the world actually worship the dragon, it's hard to imagine hundreds of millions of Muslims, Catholics, Buddhists, and Hindus outright accepting satanism and worshiping the devil. But that verse indicates they have an awareness of the dragon and worship him, so perhaps this goes to satan and crew showing up as ET/heroes of old/superheroes/world's saviors.
I'm speculating that a century of programming on extraterrestrials and superheroes wasn't for nothing.

I would agree with your speculative scenario. I have followed the new age movement for years now, and they are expecting some kind of "event" to happen that will usher in the "new age". They even think a "rapture" type event will happen, except they claim that everyone else moves on to the higher dimension of the "new age" and those who aren't ready (the people of a certain book) are left behind, removed to a different dimension until they are "ready" to move into this new phase of evolution. You see how backward it is? What I have seen from these new agers is that the possibility for this so called event, hightens in the fall, particularly around the feast of tabernacles. Personally I think the "event" is the rapture. In the meantime they are claiming that some sort of "announcement" will be made before the end of the year. Perhaps that aliens are in contact with humans at high levels of government? I don't know.
I began following these folks, because I suspect that their beliefs will dominate the end times paradigm. So I look into it, more to see what the enemy is up to. However I wouldn't recommend it for most, but only for those who are solid in their faith, because some of it really can mess with your head. These channeled messages are from demonic sources, literal doctrines of demons who cannot be trusted, who in fact predict things that do not pan out, but it does give insight into their methods and plans.
I had always wondered how people would be decieved into actually worshipping the dragon? As we now live there are two kinds of people, the children of righteousness, who serve Christ and God, and the children of disobedience, who are ruled by Satan. Though they are disobedient, most do not outrightly worship Satan, and would be appaled at that suggestion. However we know that the lawless one comes with lying signs and wonders. Perhaps claiming to bring peace and healing to the earth, and IMO claiming to be the messiah.
If the world soon errupts into the chaos that many of us think is coming, continued fears of covid 19, war on the world stage, civil unrest, maybe even civil war here and abroad along with economic chaos and there is some kind of announcement that aliens are in contact with mankind, followed by the rapture and it is claimed that these were aliens (known by new agers as the Federation of Light, or the white brotherhood, or Light bearers) who stepped in to assist mankind who removed the element (christians) from the eqaution that wasn't ready to move forward. (But don't worry, because they will return after they are eductated and ready to assume their places on the "New Earth"). Then the antichrist steps forward with the false prophet performing signs and miracles, perhaps saying Armageddon was narrowly avoided. These two will explain that Satan is really a benevolent being, that the "federation of light" is assisting them to bring in the "New World" . The false prophet will point to the Antichrist as having the same "Christ Principle" that Jesus of Nazareth had. According to the New agers, Christians, those who follow a "certain book" have interpreted it all wrong over the centuries. Satan fell on purpose to bring knowledge to mankind that God was unwilling to give them, Satan wants them to experience godhood for themselves. In fact some of them proclaim this montra : "I AM THE LOVE. I AM THE LIGHT. I AM THE TRUTH. I AM."
Sounds a lot like the warning Jesus gave us:
Mark 13:6
6 “Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He!’ and will mislead many.
6 “Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He!’ and will mislead many.
In this passage the word "He" in italics does not appear in the original text, so it would read "Many will come in My name saying, I am! and will mislead many."
So you can see how easily it will be for mankind to fall for this deception. To outrightly reject the Judeo Christian "God" and outrightly worship the dragon and the antichrist.
We can see how easily mankind is manipulated right now, how quickly our world has changed in a matter of a few short weeks. The only thing that keeps things in check right now and only barely, are those with conservative views, most of them Christians. Imagine what the world will be like without that balance? Without that pushback?
So yes I think your specualtion might prove to be more than that in days to come.
But as always, time and God shall tell.
