I read some speculative thoughts about Heaven from Mart de Haan, who’s a Bible teacher. He holds to these speculative opinions lightly, but he thinks that in Heaven, there might be competition between friends, ice hockey without fights, soccer without brawls, basketball playoffs where being a good loser is valued as much as winning, and perhaps even a safe version of boxing and NASCAR where we won’t be able to get hurt! The last part gets me excited, as I am a huge fan of NASCAR and have wanted to drive in NASCAR since I was little, but couldn’t because of my disabilities. So, what do y’all think? Do y’all think that there will be friendly competition and safer forms of our favorite sports and sports leagues that we all love to watch and play in? I think it could be cool if these things were a reality on the New Earth.

I have no idea but I think that it will be amazing beyond our imaginations. I think there will be times to work and times for leisure. What that looks like? I have no idea.

matthew2423, Natalie, Hello, Matthew, I think Natalie is right, that Heaven and the New Earth, will be way better, way beyond what anyone could imagine. So here's my word picture. Settlers from the early 1700's in the untamed mountains of Pennsylvania, in a small mining town - they know horses and carriages and sailing ships, and steam powered locomotives. So they imagine a bigger, faster, fancier carriage - maybe they have such a vivid imagination that they dream of a magic carriage that doesn't need horses. For this person, to visualize a Ferrari, or self-driving car that talks and knows where to go is off the chart. It's beyond what they can imagine. So then, someone brings along a hovercraft that we see in Star Wars, and it's beyond their wildest dreams - mine too. ;-) So I think this is how it will be for us in the new heaven, and new earth. We know that we will have glorified bodies, and no sin nature, and nothing bad will be there. No one will be sick or injured. Jealousy or envy or pride won't exist. But we have no idea really what glorified bodies really means. I think that we will have extra senses that we don't have now, - and be more like angels. Extra speed, extra strength, and be able to fly and move to other places on earth instantly by wishing. I think that there will in fact even be totally new and different creatures that no one has ever seen. Animals that God creates for that place, along with animals that lived before the flood, like Saber tooth tigers, but they won't be carnivores. So a ginormous gentle Siberian Tiger that children ride and flying cheetahs. Imagine playing some game on a crystal rink with a diamond puck and everyone rides huge talking eagles. Why not. ?? I can't wait. Im my corner of heaven, along with my flying talking cheetahs and Siberian tigers, there will be woodworking, without splinters or smashed fingers, or sawdust in my eyes. Though I can't imagine it, for someone in heaven, or on the new earth, there will be an endless mountain of things to iron - because it's just so much fun for them. LOL.

Disciple4life,
I can just picture my resurrected pet cat Kirbie talking to me on the New Earth, then sprouting wings and flying around. Lol. The reason why I saw this online in an ebook and then posted these thoughts from that author was because I saw the possibility of a safer version of NASCAR. I am a huge NASCAR fan, and I wanted to be a NASCAR driver when I was little. So, if there’s a safe version of NASCAR on the New Earth, that (other than Jesus, of course) that would be Heaven for me. In fact, I would be happy if my divinely appointed task on the New Earth is to just be a NASCAR driver, rather than ruling and reigning over a city, state, or nation on the New Earth.

Love it, Matthew matthew2423, It's doesn't say explicitly in scripture, but I firmly believe that the New Heaven and New Earth will be beyond what anyone can imagine, and with that - an experience that is unique. While I know that some people really and truly love ironing. I've met a few. But a much better analogy is gardening. Imagine gardening but without dirt that makes your dirty. The closest thing I can imagine is when I had a chance to hold mercury. It's totally surreal. It's a liquid and rolls off your hands and leaves no trace. No stain, or nothing wet, like water does. For some, planting flowers is pure joy and therapy, for others, torture. For me, fishing is nothing remotely close to fun. It's like all the bugs know I'm coming and they all come and all the fish leave- and magically migrate right to my brother's hook. So that's why I mentioned the part about a crystal puck and flying talking cheetahs - a thousand levels beyond what we know as Hockey. I think it could be the same for Nascar. No danger, and no pride, no jealousy, and maybe somehow, we can compete, but no one loses. How does that work? Don't know. It's like Martin Luther said - Deny the Trinity and you lose your salvation. Explain it and you lose your mind." LOL. Some things we just can't explain, but can't deny them either.

That's what I want to do...garden. No weeds choking things, no plants that don't thrive, no wasps or aggressive bees (I love bumblebees )

disciple4life and Natalie, Isaiah 65:21 says, “ They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.” I know a lot of people interpret this to mean that this could take place during the Millennial Kingdom, but I say that this verse could take place in the Millennium and on the New Earth. So, it looks like we’ll be specializing in home construction and vineyard planting. 😃😃😃

I couldn't grow the same plants that flourish by the side of a busy highway. To be able to grow things perfectly would be a joy to me. I've also never been able to run because I have muscular dystrophy. So maybe I'll be an athlete before I am a gardener.

boymaker, I understand how you feel. I have autism, mild cerebral palsy, and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (psoriatic arthritis). I can’t play competitive sports because there is a risk that I could get hurt and also, I would not really be emotionally mature enough to handle losing. I would probably get really, really angry or really, really sad. I’ve been able to play recreational sports with a local league for people with special needs in my area, though. However, just like you, I’ve always wanted to be a pro athlete, whether it was a NASCAR driver, NFL quarterback, NBA point guard, or whatever sport. However, I would have to be told time and time again that pro athletes have started when they were really, really little. Maybe on the New Earth, like you, I’ll be a pro athlete, and we’ll both compete with and against each other, and perhaps that can be our way of serving King Jesus is by being pro athletes together!

Yes! All the things I couldn't do here, I want to do there. I want to feel the strength in my legs. I want to not worry about falling. I remember being in 4th grade and trying to participate in gym and being embarrassed. I got out of gym every year after that. CAN'T WAIT TO MEET JESUS

matthew2423, boymaker, et all - I couldnt help myself from voicing my take on this further. While those things you want to do may well be something you could do, I see something I am certainly most desirous to do and only that: Rev 19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: ... 4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. 5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. 7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him:Is that Jesus in verse 5 instructing us? and in verse 6 what is the response? Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy [is] he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
1Cor 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? What will we do as priests? or judges? Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.Rev 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: If the Lord wants you to drive cars, so be it, but I dont see it brother, sorry. We'll be doing much more eternally gratifying things very soon. (My opinion) we will be in His presence and completely overwhelmed with joy, peace, AWE! and not even recall the things of this world any longer. We will not desire the things that are fading but those which are eternal

(My opinion) we will be in His presence and completely overwhelmed with joy, peace, AWE! and not even recall the things of this world any longer. We will not desire the things that are fading but those which are eternal mike , I know that certainly we will worship the Lord on the New Earth, but also consider this, even in the “worldly” activities that we could do on the New Earth, worship will permeate and infuse those activities. While we do those activities, even outside the New Jerusalem, we will be worshipping the Lord and doing the Lord’s will. On the New Earth, we will always do what the Lord wants us to do because our will and the Lord’s will are going to be the same and in line with each other. If the Lord wants me to drive race cars on the New Earth, then I’ll be worshipping Him even in that because it would be what He wants me to do. So, I don’t think that we ought to dismiss the possibility of what we would call “worldly” activities on the New Earth because the New Earth is going to be Heaven and the best of Earth combined into one beautiful world and realm. I think the best of Earth could include activities that maybe perhaps we wouldn’t consider being in Heaven (which wouldn’t obviously include sinful activities, those would not be there). So, the New Earth will certainly be a place full of worship of the Lord, but also, it will be a place where the Lord lovingly gives us authority over the nations, be priests and judges, resurrect dreams that we couldn’t do in this cursed world, drive cars, build homes, plant vineyards, eat at feasts, play sports, own businesses, and all those activities that resurrected, God-loving humans would like to do.

matthew2423, thank you for raising such an interesting topic. matthew2423, Natalie, disciple4life, boymaker, mike, Like you, I have nothing but speculation to offer ... So take all of this with a grain of salt.... First, want to clarify what is meant by New Earth. My understanding, is the current earth will pass away in fire (after the 1k reign) I do not think the New Earth will have need of Judges and or rulers (other than God). During the 1k reign, is the only time we will be appointed as judges/ rulers (if my understanding is correct) I think mike, said it best - we have such limited imaginations about what will be happening in the perfect world - that everything will be astonishing to US. So matthew2423, - I suspect you will be something grander than a nascar driver - Maybe an interdimensional driver taking people on tours between the dimensions. Or something even grander than I can even imagine. But I too have my favorite fantasy ... I want a hover board like was shown in the movie Back to Future, or the Hydrator that creates a pizza in seconds. and even these fantasies are lacking in imagination...

Kjs, I love “Back to the Future”. I’ve seen all three movies. I can just picture me taking people on tours in my DeLorean-style interdimensional travel car. Specifically, the one from Part II, which has flying capability and takes biodegradable fuel (but except, on the New Earth, it would be fruits and leaves from the Trees of Life that I believe would fuel my car).

I always liked the idea of being a interdimensional zoo-keeper or having superman-style fighting or racing exhibition matches
