I have been working on genealogy off and on for a long time. I love history, and it's fascinating to me to learn about my relatives and when they lived. Recently I was at my parent's house and mom said she got an old Bible from my Grandpa's second wife. (Technically I suppose she would be my mom's step-mom but Grandpa remarried when my mom was in her 40s, so she never felt like a mom figure). Mom was unsure if it even belonged in our family, but there was a name on the front. I recognized it, but couldn't place where she fit. After, pulling up my tree, she's my 3x great grandma, Elizabeth, born on my mom's side in 1840. The Bible also had a page for photos. There was a photo of a Civil War soldier, a man and a woman, General U S Grant, and a head shot of a young man. I guess it was common to buy pictures of famous people like Grant, so that's explained that photo. Thanks to a Facebook group I identified the man and woman. She is Elizabeth's husband's sister who died in 1864 10 days after giving birth to her second son.
So, today I decided to flip through the Bible, carefully, to see if there was anything else. I found some mysteries.
There is a piece of lace....
a piece of tissue like paper that used to be purple...
a drawing (was on the pages for 1 Cor chapters 11-13)...
and a report card of sorts from 1867...
I don't know who the student was but the guardian is my 4x great grandpa. He was born in 1807! I'm kind of wondering if the child's father was killed in the Civil War.

I had wondered if it was from her wedding dress. She would have gotten the Bible before she was married because her maiden name was on it.
