Has anyone seen this yet? I'm curious, but cautious. I got a copy of the Halleluyah bible, but I have not used it much. I find it interesting that this guy's name is 'Alter'.

I read the article and I'm coming away with the impression that he had a pretty blatant agenda (remove Christological references, according to the article). According to the apostles, the NT, and Christ Himself, the Old Testament is Christological in nature, so his translation is essentially to twist the OT into something it isn't it would seem.

"For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures." (1 Cor. 15:3–4)

My concern wasn't with that specific word, but with this broader issue, with direct quote from the translator in the article:

As he worked, Alter found himself removing "Christological references" in the existing English translations.

"In trying to be faithful to the literary art of the Hebrew Bible I certainly edged it away from being merely a precursor to the New Testament — which is a different kind of writing all together," he says.

That being said, I'm not familiar with this particular translation effort, so couldn't give a fair judgment one way or the other without knowing more first.
