Back in the spring, we were wrapping up our women's Bible Study; we had been talking about the characteristics of God. We ended the final meeting with our pastor's wife asking if we had an Ebenezer. It comes from 1 Samuel 7:12 "Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mispah and Shen and called its name Ebenezer, for he said, 'Till now the Lord has helped us.'" One of her favorite songs is Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing which also contains the line in my thread title.
So, I shared the following story with them. A couple of years ago, my husband was in Atlanta for work. (We live in Illinois.) He had been having episodes where his heart would start racing. When he was in Atlanta, he got really dizzy, his blood pressure went way up and his heart was racing. So, he went to an outpatient place, but they took him to the ER. They had to use the paddles on him to get his heart back in the right rhythm. Through it all my mind kept going to Isaiah 26:3 "You keep him in perfect peace who's mind is stayed on you because he trusts in You." I went to bed that night in faith that whatever happened it would be ok. But above all, that no matter what God was there. He gave me such peace.
My mother-in-law, who is a worrier anyway, called the next morning, and her first question was, "How did you sleep?" I told her fine, but the real answer was, "Peacefully." Everything did turn out fine. His heart occasionally does weird things, but he checked out fine for not being at risk for a heart attack. For some reason, it just got out of whack.
I ended up buying an aluminum bracelet and had Is 26:3 You keep him in perfect peace stamped into it. I wear it all the time. It's my Ebenezer.
Do you have an Ebenezer?
