Maybe I am reaching too far with this, but I have recently been intrigued by this little phrase in Ezekiel:
Eze 39:6 And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
It has been my experience that very often, people who dwell on islands do dwell very carelessly, especially on tropical islands--they live as if they don't have a care in the world. Even though Tsunamis, hurricanes, and other disasters can overtake them easily.
Now, I can't draw a conclusive parallel of New Zealand to the Gog passage, but this article I just saw today reminded me of those who dwell carelessly in the isles. In troubled times, people are trying to divert themselves to non-troubled places. This is a wise move, by worldly standards--even people in the US tend to try to go to live in "less troubled places" such as NZ, Australia, Chile, Costa Rica, Panama, various Caribbean or Pacific islands, etc.
But do they think they can hide from the wrath of God? They are mistaken! The same God who can attack the large can also destroy the small. In fact, though the middle east will be an extremely tumultous place during the Tribulation, at least we can be fairly certain that various people will at least sustain life there right up to the end, and this guarantee is not really afforded to other areas.
To those who might hide out on islands, let me remind you that things like earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, hurricanes, and meteors can still hit you hard there, and then you will be farther from help than anyone else. If the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and the Americas are in turmoil, do you think the Red Cross and other international aid agencies will be able to come in and save your hide? Doubtful at the very best.
