As we were watching the news this morning, April 14th, 2018, I opened to Isaiah 17. I have been told by the scholars and watchmen that this is yet to be fulfilled. So I thought I'd post the chapter here and lets evaluate together.
A Prophecy about Damascus
1The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
2The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
3The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
4And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.
5And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.
6Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel. 7At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.
8And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.
9In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.
10Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
11In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.
12Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
13The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.
Parts of this do not "make sense" to me if this prophecy is being fulfilled before our eyes, namely verses 3 where there is this remnant, and vs 7 & 10, and going on into 11... I was under the impression that Syria is a muslim nation. I know we have Christians who are in the region, but help me out here on the explanation of this chapter...and how you see it in regards to end times. Has Syria ever been in this much disarray, and Damascus such a ruin as it is becoming?

barbiosheepgirl “those who are left in Israel; they shall do no injustice and speak no lies, nor shall there be found in their mouth a deceitful tongue. For they shall graze and lie down, and none shall make them afraid." -Zephaniah 3:13 This came to mind

I have wondered if Is 17 will happen in conjunction to Ez 38. Ez 38:23 "So I will show My greatness and My holiness and make Myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD." Goes well with Is 17:7. Is 17:12-14 sounds like the horde of many people Ez 38:9. Of course, we won't know until it comes to pass.
Damascus has a very long history. It is one of the longest inhabited cities. It's seen war and been burned, changed hands throughout it's history, but it has always been rebuilt. It has never ceased to be a city.
I'm wondering if those left in Syria when all is said and done will turn to God. They would be the remnant. See also Is 19:23 and Micah 7:12
I think it's one of those things that will become clearer as time passes. Maybe we will be here to see it, but maybe we won't.

I am pretty sure the prophecy of Damascus being in ruins and not livable would have to be the ancient city of Damascus, not the suburbs and areas built the last 2000 years. The presidential palace and surrounding areas....That part has not been damage as far as I can tell.

As far as I know, this is the position/ (or very close) of JD Farag. These things are 'being fulfilled' as we speak, but some of the parts will only be fulfilled at the time, or shortly after the rapture takes place.
Damascus is already, clearly a ruinous heap in many many places. Just Google images. There is still a downtown/ city center, but as he points out, he believes many/most of the Weapons of Mass Destruction and Chemical/nuclear weapons of Sadam Hussein were taken and hidden/ stored under the city of Damascus. One missile and instantly, - the city becomes 'Uninhabitable." This prophecy could be fulfilled in an hour.
Another classic example is Christ's words - /prophecy "This gospel shall be preached to all nations [people groups] and then the end will come." I used to think that this means all nations need to hear the gospel before the rapture can happen, but now it's clear that this will be fulfilled by the angel in Revelation who flies over the earth preaching the gospel. =- And then the end will come. ***We will be gone. It is also his position - and I fully agree - that every prophecy has been fulfilled in order for the rapture to happen. In other words, there are no prophecies that have to be fulfilled which are not already, before the rapture can occur. Now, we are seeing labor pains, and we watch Syria and Russia closely. I think we will see a 'water breaking' event soon.

Purely speculation on my part, but I think it might easily come true, but if "they" do find out for sure there are chemical weapons stored under the city of Damascus, chemical warfare being such a heinous act, I can see "them" dropping a nuke on it, which would definitely make it no more a city. Of course that may be the 'water breaking' event, d4l spoke of.
edit: Could the "Glory of the Children of Israel" be equated to the Pillar of Fire(by day) that led them through the wilderness? If so, that may be the explanation of Verse 3 "The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria:" A nuke would cause the 'fortress' to cease as well as Damascus and the remnant that is left of Syrians.

Ephraim was one of the 12 tribes of Israel and a territory that no longer exist and its previous location is uncertain.

Isaiah 17:2-4
2The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. 3The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts. 4And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.
Because mostly verse 1 is mentioned in todays days, I want to remind us and the verse 1 proponents, that this event is not going to be a picnic for Israel. As we can read in the subsequent verses, Israel has troubled times ahead around this famous day. I just spoke with my wife on that point and it is very sobering to see these things starting coming to pass. The threats of Iran and other enemies may very well be taken seriously and my guess is that we will indeed see some cities fall and Israel will suffer serious calamities.
But, as some yet said, I also want to stress that our God is in full control and every thing will serve His purposes. He will bring Israel back and the church to full maturity.

www.timesofisrael.com/syrian-state-media-claims-israeli-missiles-strike-near-damascus-airport/ This report confirms/ corroborates the latest update from Paul Begley - Israel just bombed the airport at Damascus. 06/26/2018. Apparently, there was an Iranian cargo plane unloading something - Not sure exactly, but it wasn't cookies. We can be certain IDF knew what the cargo was. Paul Watchman Dawson also just posted a very fascinating update about the so-called "Deal of the century" - He is 100% convinced that this is the deal that Daniel spoke of. It is supposed to be made public in August, if Abbas doesn't agree to the deal - the Arab leaders will bypass him. Not sure of the exact reference, but he cites the passage that mentions "Jared's day." Very compelling, in light of the fact that Jared Kushner is the leading spokesman/ architect who is meeting with high-ranking Arab leaders, and they have unanimous support/ buy-in, except for Abbas, the head of the fake, so-called Palestinians- which are Arabs, 95% Jordanians. Amir Tsarfati from BeholdIsrael and other sources reported today an attack on a military airport near Damascus. Interestingly Syria does not blame one more electrical failure or short circuit for these explosions as they did several days ago.... LOL
The most interesting and disturbing news is that Iran obviously disguised its weapons storages as fake UN warehouses, according to Amir's tweet.
So the UN is partnering with the Mullahs? Surprise, surprise..... Sounds like that the IDF should consider every "UN" labeled object as a potential target and drop a bomb on it...
We will have to wait and see what comes next. Clearly Isaiah 17 is drawing nearer.
