Thought it was about time to start a live thread on the Syrian situation because there are strong signs this is escalating into biblical proportions. From Hillary:

Isaiah 17:1 A prophecy against Damascus: "See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. (NIV)
Based on some of images that are getting though -- these "cities" are mainly ruble as it is -- hard to imagine them becoming even more so.
Some news feeds (mainly RT) are claiming there was never a chemical attack....
I was not there, so unable to prove it one way another.........
But it is interesting that all of these "fake" attacks ....
Are having an video with hundreds of people being clean up

The question is: Will Russia regard the missiles as a first strike and thereby kick off WWIII. The evidence is overwhelming to the affirmative.

Hard to tell who is being truthful here. Heard Nikki Haley say we have proof and we will respond. I know her job is to be the mouthpiece for the US Administration, but I trust her. I also have to believe we have "spooks" on the ground there. I doubt Trump would have tipped his hand on this unless he had some pretty compelling evidence. Finally, I've never trusted the Russians, but then, I grew up during the cold war, and was taught that you can never trust the Russians. Of course they would cover for Assad. They have to.

My thought is that Trump could be playing the Russians on this. Peace through strength. Threaten shock and awe to get Putin to reign in Assad and back down. It worked with NK when Trump pressured China. Assad is Putin's puppet just as NK is China's puppet. Might work. If Putin comes to the table, Trump will avoid war.

Well, one thing is for sure. The Russians, Iranians, and Syrians have been scurrying like cockroaches the last few days in anticipation of a strike. You can bet their hidey-holes and trends have been mapped, analyzed, etc. Should make for a lot of bullseyes if and when the Tomahawks fly.

We can't see the damage inflicted on the ground, but it seems this was a very measured response. Just a few hours long and only 3 targets hit. I had expected something a little bigger.
Ball is in Putin's court now. I'm wondering what he will do to save face after the lashing he took last night in Trump's speech. He seems very arrogant and prideful, and that is worrisome. Although this response was aided by the UK and France, I'm sure Putin only sees the US as his main adversary.
