For reference: (using KJV)
Revelation 21:16 "And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal."
Revelation 21:10-13 "10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates."
Disclaimer: I'm still new to prophecy research, and the sources that lead me to the image I'm going to talk about may or may not be accurate in their other information. This post takes the information provided by the image at face value.
In a video on youtube by a channel called clearlywrittendotnet, I found a lot of information that I'm currently going through, but one thing, a diagram specifically, really stood out to me. It is an image showing the path of totality for four solar eclipses. I found a similar image on the internet at watchfortheday.org (linked page, image is further down).
This page shows the path of totality for 4 eclipses, some past, some future.
It is noted that these eclipses are a sort of marking for where the land promised to Abraham is located. They call it God's partition plan.
What immediately jumped out for me though, was that these paths of totality are very roughly square in shape.
The New City of Jerusalem is square in shape! Given, it is a perfect square, but I set out anyway to look at size comparisons. in Rev 21:16, the length of a side on the city is said to be 12000furlongs. This is commonly accepted to be 1500miles.
The distance from the cross of the two eclipse paths at the north of the defined area, to the cross of the two paths on the east side, is roughly 1300miles.
I realize that 200miles is quite a bit to be off, but I find it amazing that these four eclipses very roughly mark out the footprint of the new city of Jerusalem. In reality, it is larger than the area defined, and it is also a perfect square (as we understand it, I do not yet know of verses in the bible that describe the walls to be perfectly straight, they could very well curve, we only know that it is as long as it is wide as it is high).
I questioned very quickly whether or not the location of the gates of the city went against the orientation of the defined area. Many assume that the three gates on each cardinal side are in the middle of the walls, but as seen in Rev 21:10-13, it simply says "on the east 3 gates..." and so on. Using an interlinear bible, the greek words used are the cardinal directions, the word "side" is not found. If one were to put a gate on each corner of the city, and then not far from that gate place two more gates, there would be 3 gates on each cardinal direction.
I'm not calling this set in stone. I have not had time yet to research the old testament for prophecy that may contradict what I've found so far, so if anyone knows of verses that place the location of the gates in the middle of the walls (the "sides"), I would love to know. Additionally, I will openly admit that I have not yet verified the path of totality on all four eclipses.
Barring that, I find it incredible that God would possibly use something like four solar Eclipses to show us what might be the footprint of this amazing place from which God will reign.
