This thread is about the Rapture and a few things we know for sure about it.....
For example ONLY Paul specifically mentions the rapture (or catching away); Yes, there are other verses which appear to speak about the rapture – but only in Paul’s letters do we have this “wonder spelled out”.......
First Corinthians 15:51-53 “Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.”
This is probably the “primary verse” for the rapture (and it does not even give it a name).
From this one verse we learn the following:
1) Not everyone will DIE – At some future point in time – believers (We know this group of people are believers – since Paul cause the group “WE”)
2) It (this changing event) will happen rapidly – in fact it is going to take place so fast, that Paul lists it as “twinkling of an eye”. Most people define this “timing” as “an instant” or “very rapid”
3) “At the Last Trumpet” – people have been wondering about this term for years. Some take it to be the Last Trumpet sound that ANYONE will ever hear. Some feel it is last sounding of a trumpet during the Feast of Trumpets celebrations. Some people feel it is the “7th” trumpet to sound in the Book of Revelation. Some in this day and hour, think it applies to this particular President / Vice President combination.
4) All believers (those who have died as well as those who are alive) will be changed. Specifically, the physical body we all have will be changed to something (or some body) that is imperishable.
5) Paul specifically says “this mortal body must put on immortality” -- or going from a body that will die to a body that will never die.
First Thessalonians 4:16 “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 4:17Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
This is usually the next passage which is used to explain “the rapture” and it has similar elements within it for the first verse…
1) There are a group of believers who are alive and a group of believers who are dead.
2) There is a trumpet sound (no mention of last here)
3) We will be changed (here the change is implied – based of meeting Jesus in the air, and that we will always be with him… both imply a new body that can float through the air and will be around for eternity.
Now the next verse is used differently for the rapture, in other words it does not spell it out specifically.
2 Thessalonians 2:3 Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for it will not come unless the departure takes place first and the man of sin, who is destined for destruction, is revealed.
Yes, there is much debate on the meaning of “apostasia” BUT since the first seven translations of the Bible all translated the word as “THE DEPARTURE” – I think there is a good chance that it is the correct usage here. Along with that is the definite article THE is applied to the word …. Making the meaning “The Departure” make sense BUT if people insist the word means rebellion of apostasy -- they need to come up with a good theory of just what is “THE REBELLION” or “THE APOSTASY” -- since with the definite article classifies it as a specific type (or not just any).
Personally, the reason I think people have trouble with the "rapture" because it "smacks to much of magic" ....
I mean think about it.............
In a single instant (twinkle of an eye) -- people will exchange their flesh bodies for immortal bodies ... and meet Jesus in the AIR....
To an observer -- it might appear that Samantha twitched her nose -- and made everyone disappear.......
