I have noticed when I have tried talking to people about Jesus and being a Christian, the first thing I hear is I don't want tofollow a bunch of rules I want to live my own way.
I thought about this and I think the reason is because people get so confused about the law. The law was sent to Moses to show us that we desperately needed God, it was there to define sin and to show us that all of us are sinners and that we need God to save us.
Then God came down to earth to die for us so that our punishmentthat we deserve was laid down on His own shoulders. This way wecan be justified with God by believing and following Jesus. There is no amount of laws you can follow to ever get saved. We getsaved only through God's grace, it's not from anything else.
Now the confusion about following the laws. As I said before they were originally sent for us to learn what sin is so that will be held accountable. If you break one law you break them all, but once you give your life to Christ then the penalty for breaking those laws is null and void, but only if you give it to Christ.
So ultimately what I'm trying to say is that it's not about worrying about following a list of rules, instead it's about starting and building a relationship with God, who loved you so much that He was willing to die for you.
If you want to understandhow to live as a Christian, it is summarized in 1 chorinthians 13
1 Corinthians 13:1-13 If I speak in thetongues of men or ofangels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give allI possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it isnot easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does notdelight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where thereare tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, itwill pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shallknow fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
