I don't listen to secular music much but I've been helping my daughter 15 minutes each morning clean her room. (My kids are in the middle of a two week stretch of schooling from home). The short daily routine has been working well for both of us.
The first two things we do to get started are to set the timer on my phone and turn on the radio on her clock radio. The local station plays a mix of 70/80/90 popular music with the required 35% Canadian content.
Today there was a song that I wanted to share (yet again), so I've decided to start a thread for Balaamic Worship for songs that speak to God and Rapture without it necessarily being the song writers intentions.
Back to You is a song by Bryan Adams
I've been down, I've been beat
I've been so tired, that I could not speak
I've been so lost, that I could not see
I wanted things that where out of reach
Then I found you, and you helped me through
Yeah you showed me what to do
That's why, I'm coming back to you, yeah
(The first verse speaks to a person apart from God who realizes that they need Christ for salvation. They are once again apart from God and have realized that they once again need to seek Christ.)
Like a star guides a ship across the ocean
That's how your love, can take me home
Back to you
And if I wish upon a star
Someday I'll be where you are
And I know that day is coming soon
Yeah, I'm coming back to you
(God's love is constant. He sent his Son Jesus to guide us to him via salvation. Looking up at the magnificence of God's heavenly display, the songwriter is praying for the opportunity to go to Heaven. "That day" is close at hand. Soon we will be Raptured to be with Jesus. Is "that day" the rapture?)
You've been alone, but you did not show it
You've been in pain, when I did not know it
You let me do, what I needed to
You where there, when I needed you
Mighta let you down, mighta messed you round
But you never changed your point of view
That's why, I'm coming back to you
(Jesus was alone at his death. He alone suffered for the sins of mankind / God is hurt when we sin / God lets us choose our own decisions and our own path. / But He is always here for us when we need Him. / Regardless of who we treat/talk/blashpheme Jesus, he is always a constant that doesn't change. When we change through Salvation, we realize that He didn't and was always the same constant that we need in our lives.)
Yeah, like a star guides a ship across the ocean
That's how your love, can take me home
Back to you
And if I wish upon that star
Someday I'll be where you are
And I know that day is coming soon
Yeah, I'm coming back to you
Mighta let you down, mighta messed you round
But you never changed your point of view
That's why, I'm coming back to you
Yeah
Like a star guides a ship across the ocean
That's how your love, can take me home
Back to you
And if I wish upon that star
Someday I'll be where you are
And I know that day is coming soon
Yeah, I'm coming back to you
I'm coming back to you
I'm coming back to you
I'm coming back to you
That day is coming soon
I'm coming back to you
(The songwriter once again repeats at the end "That day is coming soon". What a fantastic day that will be when we get to be at Jesus' side.)
I like this song because the songwriter is intentionally making a promise to return to their love because their love's love is always constant. Unbeknownst to the songwriter is the fact that human love is merely a shadow of God's true love and that the songwriter is actually singing about God's love.
After the song finished playing, I pulled up the lyrics and chatted with my daughter on how the songwriter was singing about God's love and the rapture. I've always been uncomfortable with sharing what things mean to me, so it is nice to have children so that I get better at it. She agreed that it was a good song and could be speaking about God.
