Seems like July has been kind of quiet. Or it just me? For earthquakes that is - I know there is a bunch of other things going on. Indeed. That usually indicates tension is building for the next series of big EQs. More and more I am looking at EQs occurring in unusual places, rather than just the big ones. Like in TX, NC and SC, MI, OH and the Northeast where I am, and odd places around the world where you haven't seen EQs before, or not for a long time. And of course, I also watch for the little ones around New Madrid and the Cascades, because I think those areas may actually experience the next catastrophic EQ event here in the US. Its due. |

I hope New Madrid waits until we leave. I have only felt shaking from it twice. Husband said that one a few years ago was a 4.9, he thinks. He said a 6 would probably cause damage where we live.

Particularly nasty one here. So deep inside China, I doubt we will hear about it, but this one is probably really bad for some people living in Chengdu. (that giant city to the NE Of the EQ)

7 dead after massive earthquake strikes Papua New Guinea in Southwest Pacific www.foxweather.com/extreme-weather/earthquake-papua-new-guinea 7. And this is another loooooooooong earthquake, a minute long @ 7.6! Must have seemed like an eternity. This is a trend I am seeing in reports with these larger EQs that I never saw before this year. |
