Two issues I would like to point out from the article ....
Issue 1
Binyamin Netanyahu has taken a different tack. His approach partially based on the idea that trading land for peace is a chimera, tempting Israelis to surrender something tangible in exchange for an ephemeral feeling of satisfaction.
For those curious
Chimera -- a thing that is hoped or wished for but in fact is illusory or impossible to achieve.
Here is the deal -- this "Land for Peace deal" -- Is not NEW and it has never worked.....
First Time: On 19 June 1967, Israel offered "to give up Sinai and the Golan in exchange for peace," an offer that was rejected in September 1967 by the Arab States by the Khartoum Resolution, which became famous for the "Three No's": "no peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, no negotiations with it..."
Next time was in 1979 -- with Egypt where Israel withdrew from Sinai
Next time was in 1994 -- where resolution 242 (UN) was used to help with Jordan
The last two had some success -- but almost 100% Palestinians and Arab States -- refuse to recognize anything -- that still has Israel existing.
======================
Issue 2
It could mark the moment when Israel moves decisively against Palestinian land in the West Bank, changing the balance of political power among Palestinians and invigorating rejectionists.
It will be really interesting to see how this plays out.... If Netanyahu keeps his promise to annex Gaza (and West Bank) -- it is going to be very "tense" there for the foreseeable -- future -- dare I say probable war?
