Good morning all. The other day at a Bible study we were all talking about our glorified bodies and about eternity/resurrection etc. One of the young single people brought up that if the rapture does happen within the next few months or if someone dies being single will they be single for all of eternity? An elder brought up Matthew 22:30 " For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. " So does this mean if a believer were to be raptured and/or die single would that believer miss out on getting married and starting a family forever? Or would God just hook us up with our ultimate husband/wife? Or do yall think that the glorified believer wouldn't desire those missed out relationships anymore? (it seems wrong to me that God would change our desires, though it would be perfectly in His Holy Right to do so)
This is a loaded one Joecool...I have my thoughts on this and they go real deep without any real definite answers IMO.
My first stop on answering these types of questions is what do we do in heaven? In almost every case the answer is "worship Him". This tends to lead me to "if i'm worshipping Him (along with you and all our brothers/sisters) when do I have time for anything else". This answer gets me into the next rabbit hole-time. I wont go down there yet but without any real issue with time I tend to think about "why will I worship Him non-stop?" Obviously He is worthy of it, but when I start to think about it and dwell/meditate a bit I realize that I am going to be in the presence of Almighty God! Like face to face! With that kind of awe I think "well do I really need anything else?" I mean 1000 yrs could pass and not even realize it!
I really believe our focus will be shifted in eternity. We will not concern ourselves with "food, water, clothing and thing like this". While I want to believe that I will be around and able to commune with certain people/family, I do not believe we will realize who is with us and who is not. Why? Lets say the rapture happens tomorrow or even today, and someone you know has rejected the gospel, perhaps even a spouse, what happens to you? Think about being in His presence at the rapture and having concern for a loved one left behind? Is that the experience God wants us to have? Doubtful! No more tears in heaven, right?
So yeah Jesus addressed the marriage question to the Pharisees and the 7 husband question Check it out from Lukes gospel below. While I am hopeful to see certain people in that day, I am inclined to think we may not realize certain things for reasons we cant comprehend
Luke 20:34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection
mike: more than just a shout bernie...mostly to the main page and Garys et al wonderful articles, but we on this end of the discussion must account for what Barry says as people are looking, watching, wondering and need to be shown JESUS!!
