I'm not a Bible scholar, so please forgive me if I'm pointing out something really obvious! I was reading in Matthew the other day, and noticed in 26:60 (NKJ) two false witnesses came forward. Two False witnesses. The two witnesses in Revelation came to mind. My immediate thought was that Satan is an excellent counterfeiter, and my next thought was to see what the other gospels said. No other gospel listed two witnesses, which burst my bubble a little bit . I thought it's still worth chewing on, and worth sharing. Glad you all are here to share with!

So how do you think it relates to the Two Witnesses in Revelation?

Just lurking while around company that would never discuss end-times.. I saw this post and needed to get into the Word for a bit. In my quick read in the KJV, this is an interesting parallel for future event, but in an interesting twist. 2 false witnesses being used as legitimate witness, whereas the Revelation 2 witnesses are the real deal...this is very interesting. Worth more indepth study..

Deut 17:6 "At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death."
This is what the verse in Matthew is about. They were seeking to put Jesus to death but none of the witnesses panned out. Finally two liars entered the fray.
Is it possible that there could be two false witnesses ahead of the Revelation witnesses? Perhaps. But this is not the interpretation for the verses in Matthew as the context was accusing Jesus of some crime.

I didn't have a theory, mostly I was curious what other people thought about it.
I don't see them as a foreshadowing of the two witnesses in Revelation, primarily because I don't see that any false witnesses were mentioned. The closest I have to a theory is that these false witnesses are perhaps a mirror image, a counterfeit.
The Pharisees perverted a good law, which was intended to protect the innocent from wrongful arrest, and they made a blameless Man appear guilty. The witnesses in Revelation may bookend that in a sense, by justifying who Jesus is and what He came for, and also these Revelation witnesses will bring the truth to the descendants of the very people who crucified their Messiah.
Thanks for your input and consideration! I'm happy to learn.

Deut 17:6 "At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death." This is what the verse in Matthew is about. They were selling to put Jesus to death but none of the witnesses panned out. Finally two liars entered the fray. But this is not the interpretation for the verses in Matthew as the context was accusing Jesus of some crime. Great context mike. It's amazing when I read this the Spirit gave me also this in Matthew 18:20: "For when two or three are gathered in My name, there I am with them." Here we see God using these as a testimony of truth. Still trying to wrap my head around this...but we see two false-witnesses were used to condemn Christ, and in the Tribulation two witnesses are used to spread the truth of Christ...definitely something to look further into. Interesting find hopeful!
