Greetings to all my brothers and sisters in Christ! It seems to me we have been seeing and hearing of many things lately in the news that in some way or other tie back to the years 1917, 1918, and around that area of time. I'd like to open up this thread to compiling and discussing these things. Here's a starter:
Balfour Declaration (02 November 1917) World War I (28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918) Total solar eclipse crosses the US (08 June 1918) Fatima Vision (13 May 1917)

Battle of Jerusalem: November 17 - December 30, 1917 Russian Empire falls (precursor to judgment on Gog/Magog?): March 15, 1917 (Jim mentioned the Soviet Revolution) Great Thessaloniki Fire of 1917: August 18-19, 1917
The fire caught my attention for a number of reasons.
1. Thessaloniki being the city of the Thessalonians to whom Paul described the rapture (1 Thess 4:16-17) and the subsequent sudden destruction and the Tribulation (1 Thess 5, 2 Thess 2).
2. It was a massive fire destroying two-thirds of what was then the second largest city in Greece. It primarily affected Jews just as the Trib will be primarily focused on Israel. Peter tells us that the second global judgment will not be water, but fire.
Also, before and during WWII, WWI was called the "Great War". 100 years before the "Great Sign".

Excellent additions, Gary! I had not heard of the Thessaloniki fire before--very fascinating!
My husband and I were visiting his grandmother today, and without us even mentioning the 1917/1918 study beforehand, she brought up the fact that John F. Kennedy would have been 100 years old on May 29 this year--just a few days away. He was born on 29 May 1917. It brought to mind the recent news regarding Melania Trump being the first Catholic first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy.
So interesting that much of the news lately seems to be connecting back to 1917/1918!

Remember the not-long-ago "nuclear option" event in the US Congress during the nomination of Neil Gorsuch? The nuclear option has its roots in 1917. Here's some information from Wikipedia about it...
Senator Trent Lott (R-Miss.) first used the term "nuclear option" for this maneuver in March 2003. The metaphor of a nuclear strike refers to the majority party unilaterally imposing a change to the filibuster rule, which might provoke retaliation by the minority party. The alternative term "constitutional option" is often used with particular regard to confirmation of executive and judicial nominations, on the rationale that the United States Constitution requires these nominations to receive the "advice and consent" of the Senate. Proponents of this term argue that the Constitution implies that the Senate can act by a majority vote unless the Constitution itself requires a supermajority, as it does for certain measures such as the ratification of treaties. By effectively requiring a supermajority of the Senate to fulfill this function, proponents believe that the current Senate practice prevents the body from exercising its constitutional mandate, and that the remedy is therefore the "constitutional option." The history of the constitutional option can be traced to a 1917 opinion by Senator Thomas J. Walsh, (Democrat of Montana) who contended that the U.S. Constitution provided the basis by which a newly commenced Senate could disregard procedural rules established by previous Senates, and had the right to choose its own procedural rules based on a simple majority vote.

Thank you, watchmanjim! I see on the 2nd page of the 1918 information it has a mention of the "Battle of Megiddo," which is fascinating to me in connection with a future battle of Armageddon. This 1918 battle was 19 September to 01 October 1918.
I hadn't realized until I did a little more searching for information that Megiddo is actually the site of the first recorded battle in history, possibly 1457 BC or as far back as 1482 BC. Source: "Battle of Megiddo (15th Century BC)," Wikipedia, 24 April 2017, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Megiddo_(15th_century_BC)
I find it interesting that it will also be the last battle in history...

King Josiah also died at Megiddo. Well, he received his fatal wound there.

Also remember that Jezreel is the valley there, Megiddo is the town. Har Megiddo, or Armageddon, is the hill the town was on. Many OT passages talk about Jezreel--it is a huge feature in OT history and prophecy. I tend to think that many of the historical references may have typological significance to the final battle there. Also see this site, which tells about the significance of Megiddo and its battles. I don't know the source so take it with a grain of salt. www.ucg.org/world-news-and-prophecy/a-place-called-megiddo-the-worlds-battleground

The influenza was the largest epidemic in modern history. Jesus prophesied of pestilence aka diseases during the tribulation. Exactly a century later and the tribulation begins...maybe. Nice discovery Greg!!
