It all comes down to one and only one thing: have you ever, through genuine faith, received the free gift of everlasting life. Altar calls, "Sinner's Prayers", baptisms, and declarations of faith, while great things, are not, in and of themselves, faith.
"He who believeth on the Son hath everlasting life."
P.S. Dr. Arnold also has a great discussion of subjunctive verbs, which is rarely (if ever) explored by Christian teachers.
