King James Version
Sometime ago I considered Germany as the beast of WW3; however, the prevailing evidence was that the beast was Russia and/or China, the bears. So I set aside Germany as the WW3 beast until this morning when I considered the question "What does WW1, WW2, and WW3 have in common?" The answer is Germany.
I will start with Dan. 7:4 that the first of the three beasts "was like" a lion. That is, coming out of Pax Britannica wherein Great Britain had global domination for 100 years, her cousin in a bid for global domination "was like a lion (GB)", and this was Germany. Germany "had eagle's wings" as she swiftly moved beyond her regional boundaries establishing maritime dominance. Thus, Germany was like Great Britain the lion wherein she moved swiftly with eagles wings beyond her regional boundaries to establish global dominance. That is, until her wings "were plucked" off in WW1, after which Germany "was made" to stop behaving like an animal and "stand" like "a man" in civil society. That is, after WW1 wherein the nations of the world gave Germany a beating, they made Germany behave with international social graces with "a heart" of good will and decency.
The second of the three beasts is described in Dan. 7:5. Here we see Germany "like to a bear (Russia)" ready to arise, dominate, and destroy her neighbors. Germany is raised "on one side" with "three ribs in the mouth." Since "they", the ribs, instruct Germany to "Arise, devour much flesh," then the ribs must be in an alliance with Germany. The fact that the ribs are in Germany's mouth shows that if they did not participate in the alliance then they would also be destroyed. Thus, the ribs in Germany's mouth escape destruction. Who are these three? Perhaps Italy, Switzerland, and Austria. Thus, Dan. 7:5 describes Germany in WW2.
The third of these three beasts flows naturally from the first two. Thus we have Germany again described in Dan. 7:6 but this time she is not pursuing global domination like Great Britain (Dan. 7:4), nor is she pursuing regional domination like Russia (Dan. 7:5), but she is simply being herself; "like a leopard." Supporting evidence that she is behaving herself is that "on the back of it (Germany) four wings" and this is in contrast to the eagles wings of Dan. 7:4 wherein she pursued global domination. However, these four wings are not wings of regional domination like in Dan. 7:5 but "of a foul." Thus, she is staying home, peacefully like a saint. That is, a foul is a peaceful bird that in Revelation Chapter 19 represents saints. Thus, Germany as a foul is Germany as a saint; she is at peace. However, the four wings have a secondary application to her "four heads" not only as the four types of historical governments Germany has had, but also to the four types of domination that Germany has attempted. Thus, the first wing/head represents Dan. 7:4 wherein Germany competed with Great Britain for world domination. The second wing/head represents Dan. 7:5 wherein Germany attempted to be like Russia in destroying and dominating her neighbors. The third wing/head represents Dan. 7:6 with the peaceful nature that Germany now has in its participation as a European partner to peacefully dominate Europe. Lastly, the fourth wing/head represents Dan. 7:7 in which Germany arises as the fourth beast that along with the Pope takes over the world.
