Someone smarter than me can, perhaps, explain this to me. If the time of man is 6000 years and this is year 5779 coming up (according to Jewish reckoning), that leaves 221 years until 6000. I can't imagine Jesus waiting that long to come back. Tonight would be good with me. Can someone explain this ? Thanks.

I know there is information out there on how the Jews got their calendar date. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will send you in the right direction.
I think Answers in Genesis dates Creation about 4004 BC. So, using that date, we are passed 6000 years.
I saw someone somewhere who calculated things according to 360 day years and then 365 (after the flood?) and came up with 6000 being right about now.
I am not sure anyone knows for sure where we are in time, but I'd say time is about up. No, we don't have 221 years left.

Bad info coming your way...I vaguely remember reading that the missing years in the current Hebrew calendar were found in some other documentation

There was 2,000 years from Adam to Abraham and 2,000 years from Abraham to Jesus and 2,000 years since Jesus. This adds to over 6,000 years. It's been over 2,000 since Jesus which makes it the beginning of the 3rd day. 0 to 999 is 1 day, 1,000 to 1999 is another day, 2,000 to 2018 is in the 3rd day:
Hos 6:2-After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight
I read somewhere about the missing years when the calendar was redone, makes one wonder if it was done to keep the real year hidden.

I read somewhere about the missing years when the calendar was redone, makes one wonder if it was done to keep the real year hidden. Not to cause disagreement ... but many people have used this passage to promote various things....
For example one guy claims the crucifixion and resurrection took place in 28AD and therefore Jesus Christ will return in 2028 (he has a website called 2028 something .... not linking it because I disagree with him)
Another Guy thinks the "timing" does not start until the destruction of the temple in 70AD -- and therefore it will be at least 2070 (or seven years before 2063) before something will happen.....
Others claim the "time periods" are off -- in other words Adam to Abraham was estimated to be 2000 years same with Abraham to Jesus were estimated and could be lessor or greater than 2k.....
Kind of similar to those discussions of when the "fig tree" brings for leaves .... (or rebirth of Israel) .... some say 1948 was the start.... others say 1967 was the start since that was when Jerusalem was returned...
My personal opinion is that God has designed it for us to see the "getting closer warnings" but unable to determine the actual date (as in day or hour)....

i think this does a solid job of giving us a very close, very scientific date. Worth a view and educating oneself.

I think it's possible that the 6k countdown started with the fall rather than creation.
