Tonight was the local 4H meat goat show. My son had two goats entered, they did not place particularly well. But a goat he bred and sold to a fellow 4H member won reserve supreme grand champion! We were all so very happy for this young man,and my son was delighted as well.

That's so awesome! Glad your son was happy for his friend - that's a lesson right there, isn't it! What a great experience for all.

barb84 that says so much!! a friend of mine sold a hairsheep ram to a 4-her. Hairsheep, for the audience reading, do not "fit" the 4-h model. This kid won grand champion and there were other rams...those classic blackface giants.. So I and my friend were beaming! Ah, the wondrous positive distractions from the world we suffer!

I enjoy the fair week, but it is exhausting! barbiosheepgirl, I don't agree with a lot of the feeding protocols of the 4H program for market animals. Grain, grain, grain! But there are a lot of positive things. I love it when the unconventional animals do well. The expressions on the faces of my son and his friend were priceless. And also, the boy who took grand champion is a breeder. He let other 4Hers pick out goats first and he used the two left over. What a night it was.
