Hey there guys and gals. Hope this thread finds you doing well and full of God’s blessings.
I know the word prepper is sometimes seen as derogatory so I don’t mean it that way in this context at all. My question is has anyone bought and could recommend any of the pre-packaged food supplies that are being sold these days? I was thinking of getting one of bulk freeze dried food supplies just in case of an emergency but hated the thought of wasting $400 to $500 on some nasty junk. I have budgeted $750for my emergency food suppply and just not sure the best way to spend it and what to spend it on.
my wife and I are also starting to can our vegetables that we grow, but all those cans take up a lot of space. In theory, the beauty of the freeze dried food is that it can have a 25 year shelf life and be stored in a small area under a bed for instance. As many of you already know, I am not super handy, “woodsy”, self reliant, or particularly useful in an apocalyptic setting. (And I use the term apocalyptic very loosely here. Apocalyptic to me basically means that the air conditioner is off for more than 4 hours and I won’t be able to take a shower before bed..lol) I didnt grow up learning basic survival skills or camping or hunting or anything similar. Trying to learn this stuff as an adult is way more tedious and equally hilarious. It has supplied my wife with endless amounts of harrasment and joke ammo but that in itself is a blessing. You have to be able to laugh at yourself and not take yourself too seriously, right?😀. She lovingly calls me her “MetroSexual Man in the Woods” and that my bug-out bag would have more hair gel than water and food.
And just for clarification, I am not trying to stockpile food because I don’t put my faith in God. I most certainly do trust and belive that God will always supply for me and my family. He always has and He always will. My concern is that I live on the gulf coast in Texas. We seem to be in the bullseye for natural disasters and hurricanes the last decade. In my idealistic mind, I would love to be able to supply not only for my family but for neighbors or strangers if times really got bad. Kind of like an end times soup kitchen that can minister to people and share Gods love.
Any tips or suggestions are very welcomed. Harassment and jokes are also fine with me.
